Legend
The basic abbreviation is in the form: PnC

P is the main packaging type
n is the number of cigars
C is the cigar packaging type (af applicable)

Example - B25at - Dress box of 25 cigars in aluminium tubes
Boxes are unvarnished unless noted otherwise.

Note: Greyed-out abbreviations are being phased out.

Abbreviations	Packaging Details	Cigar Details
P - Packaging
Dress Boxes
B	Dress Box The classic timber cigar box, made from cedar veneer. The paper dressing forms the hinge of the box and the lid is normally fixed with a nail. In a few cases a brooch clasp is used, but this fixing is being phased out. Also called: standard box, semi-plain box, labelled box, current box.	Cigars are boxed pressed, except for tubos and cedar-wrapped cigars. B25 normally in 2 layers (12 bottom, 13 top). B20 normally in 2 layers of 10. B10 normally in 1 layer. Tubed cigars normally in 3 layers (some 4 layers).
Bf (B-afBun) (B-bun/af)	Dress Box with Foil Wrapped Bundle An aluminium paper foil wrapped bundle of cigars, packed in a standard dress box.	Normally consist of 25 cigars.
Slide Lid Boxes
SLB	Slide Lid Box Unvarnished cedar veneer timber boxes with a slide lid.	Normally boxes of 25 & 50. Cigars are in a ribbon tied bundle.
vSLB	Varnished Slide Lid Box As above, but with clear varnished finish.
FSLB (fSLB) (sSLB)	Flat Slide Lid Box Unvarnished cedar veneer timber boxes with a slide-in lid.	Cigars are packed in layers. FSLB10 are normally in a single layer. FSLB20 are normally in a double layer.
vFSLB	Varnished Flat Slide Lid Box As above, but with clear varnished finish.
Semi Boite Nature Boxes
SBN	Semi Boite Nature Box Unvarnished cedar veneer timber boxes with hinges & brooch clasp.	Cigars are packed in layers. SBN10 are normally in a single layer. SBN25 are normally in a double layer.
vSBN	Varnished Semi Boite Nature Box As above, but with a clear varnish finish.
Boite Nature Boxes
vBN	Varnished Boite Nature Box Clear varnished cedar veneer timber boxes, fitted with cedar sealing collars, hinges & brooch clasp.	Cigars are packed in layers. BN10 & BN15 are normally in a single layer. BN25 are normally in a double layer. La Gloria Cubana's vBN10 is un-usual, in that it has curved sides to imitate the 898Boxes.
bBN	Black-lacquered Boite Nature Box As above, but with a gloss black lacquered finish.
Cabinet Boxes
vCAB (Cab) (vCab)	Varnished Cabinet Clear varnished timber cabinet, fitted with cedar sealing collars, hinges & a brooch clasp or slide lock.	Cigars are packed in layers.
bCAB (Cab)	Lacquered Cabinet As above, but with an opaque lacquered finish. Usually gloss black.	Cigars are packed in layers.
898 Boxes
898B (343B10)	898 Box Unvarnished timber boxes with the two longer sides curved vertically, and fitted with hinges & a brooch clasp.	898B25 are packed in three layers, of 8, 9, & 8 cigars. 898B10 are packed in three layers, of 3, 4, & 3 cigars. 898B50 contains a bundle of 50 cigars.
v898B	Varnished 898 Box As above, but with a clear varnish finish.
Bundles
Bun (BUN)	Bundle Cellophane wrapped bundle of cigars, with no other outer packaging. Now discontinued, and replaced by boxed bundles.	Bundles normally consist of 25 cigars.
CB (CBcbun)	Cardboard Boxed Cellophane Bundle Cellophane wrapped bundle of cigars, packed in a "soft-pack" cardboard box, printed to look like a dress box.
CBf (CB-afBun) (CB-bun/af)	Cardboard Boxed Foil Bundle Aluminium paper foil wrapped bundle of cigars, packed in a "soft-pack" cardboard box, printed to look like a dress box.
Small Packs
P	Pack Small cardboard soft pack, either slide or flip-top. The packs are invariably wrapped in cellophane. Contains 3 or 5 large cigars; or 10 or 20 small cigars.	Contains plain or cellophane cigars. Usually comes on lots of ten in an outer cardboard box suitable for retail display.
AP (aP)	Aluminium Pack Can be slide or hinged. Usually contains 5 cigars.
AT (ATP)	Aluminium Tube New packaging for ICT machine-made cigars.	Contains multiple cigars. To date, only used for un-cellophaned puritos.
Jars
J	Ceramic Jar Ceramic jar with a push-on lid.
GJ (gJ)	Glass Jar Clear glass jar, with a clip-on lid.
Other Packaging
Cajón	Cajón A large timber box,	Usually contains 100 cigars packed in layers.
T (Tin)	Tin Can A circular metallic can.	Usually contains 50 or 100 cigars.
H (Hum)	Humidor
S (Sp)	Special Box
C - Individual Cigar Packaging
Wrapped Cigars
c	Cellophane Cellophane wrapped cigars.	Individual cigars.
cw	Cedar Wrapped Cedar wrapped cigars.
tw	Tissue Wrapped Tissue-paper wrapped cigars.
gf	Gold Foil Gold paper-foil wrapped cigars.
af (fw)	Aluminium Foil Aluminium paper-foil wrapped cigars. Foil either plain or star patterned.
Tubed Cigars
at	Aluminium Tube Tubes have a thin cedar sheet lining. Standard tube has a screw top. Premium tubes have a push top section.	Each tube contains an individual cigar.
pt	Plastic Tube Tubes can be either clear or opaque, with push-top cap.
gt	Glass Tube Glass Tubes have a plastic push cap.
Boxed Cigars
p (cb)	Cardboard Pack Each pack contains a single cigar.	Normally in packs (P3, P5).
b (b1)	Small SLB Each unvarnished small slide lid box , usually containing a single cigar. Also known as "coffin".	Culebras contain a single set of three cigars twisted together.
vb (b1)	Varnished Small SLB As above, but with a clear varnish finish.
